When we were kids and highlights were the rage for a “summer look,” we put apple cider vinegar and water in a spray bottle and sprayed our hair before we got into the boat to water ski the day away! It worked great!
If we got sunburned we gently washed the burn with apple cider vinegar. It cooled almost instantly!
When we had to wash windows before we could go skiing we used a white vinegar and water mixture and dried the glass or mirror with wadded up newspapers...clean, clear, streak free and fast!
For soft clothes without the chemical smell and side effects, I put white vinegar in the “softener” cup when doing a load of wash. My clothes come out soft and fluffy and smell fresh whether from the dryer or hung on the line. Yes I do hang on the line in winter too!
Today I use vinegar for all sorts of projects from windows to cleaning the commode. I also use it for health! Yep, for health and it is way cheaper than many products both OTC and natural and of course at about $1.50 a gallon it is pretty economical. Reading my recent AAA magazine I found an advertisement that reads like it is a Jerry Baker take off. I have used Jerry Baker natural remedies for gardens and home cleaning for years and years but had sort of forgotten many of them. Here is a short summary of suggestions I can make from personal experience that you may find helpful. Some need to be mixed with some other product for effectiveness. All I can say, suggestions…it is up to you to decide what to use and if it helps.
Sore throat: 1 TB of Apple Cider (AC) vinegar and 1/2 tsp honey goes down smooth and helps relieve the pain.
Aid digestion: 1 TB AC Vinegar in water once or twice a day
Appetite suppression (if you are trying to lose weight!): 1 Tb AC in water with every meal and one at bedtime
Cleaning: 3 TB white vinegar into the commode bowl, swish, let sit a few minutes then flush For general cleaning counter tops, floors, toilet seat and similar surfaces: 1 cup white vinegar to 1/2 to 1 gallon water. Put in spray bottle and use as needed
And my all time favorite: to get rid of mineral build up on faucets, containers, fountains…just fill with straight White Vinegar and let sit (my fountain is table top size and was totally blocked up—took 12 hours and some scrubbing but it works like a dream now!) then rinse. How easy is that?
